MUN Club to Visit Consulate General of Denmark - Silicon Valley

On Friday March 10th, students in SSU’s Model UN program visited the Consulate General of Denmark in Silicon Valley to learn how Danish societal values influence Denmark’s foreign policy. We were received with such warmth and hospitality, as well as critical honesty, about the exemplary pros and also some cons of various aspects of Danish societal model, that our students came away with a much deeper and intuitive understanding of the country they will be representing at the National Model UN Conference in NYC in April 2003.

We want to especially thank Consular General Jesper Kamp for sharing his insights on bringing Danish technological know-how to California’s green transition, and on his time as Ambassador to Nigeria where he organized a Model UN for Nigerian youth. And our sincerest thanks to Interim Deputy Head of Mission Mette Schou Heise for her warm, open, and friendly discussion with our students. We also would like to thank deeply the three intern presenters who custom tailored a presentation on Denmark for our student delegation, Karina Marie Halskov, Kamille Overgaard Björnsson, and Sofie Strandby Smidt, for their thorough and frank discussion of Danish government and society. All the Danish values of hospitality, frankness, and critical thinking were on full display during the generously-long meeting the Consulate staff hosted, and our students gained a meaningful insight on the country and values they will be representing at NMUN in New York City.
